The Unsolved Murder of Julie Finley

Julie disappeared from Liverpool city centre on the 5th August 1994. Her body was found the next day. Her killer has never been caught.

Julie Finley was found dead on Saturday the 6th of August 1994. Her naked body had been left in a field close to a lay-by in Rainford, St Helens. She was just 23 years old.

The last known sighting of Julie was on the evening before she was found. A witness saw her talking to a white man, aged in his 20s or 30s, at approximately 11.00 pm. The pair were seen on Pembroke Place, behind the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Another witness saw someone matching Julie’s description at around 2.30 am on Saturday, August 6. He said that he saw a young woman arguing with a man outside the Wheatsheaf Public House, close to where Julie’s body was found. The witness said that the man was trying to force the young woman into a white transit van. Police appealed for this man to come forwards, but he never did.

Shortly after Julie was found, a friend of hers named Tina called the police, telling them that on the night of the murder, Julie said that she was going to meet a taxi driver from the Prescot area. This was the only information that Tina gave to the police. At the time, she said that she…
