Should You Start a YouTube Channel to Make Money?

It is common knowledge that SOME YouTubers make a lot of money. However, how easy is it to make money on YouTube and should you create a YouTube channel just to make money?

To make money from YouTube advertisements you need 1000 subscribers and your videos must have generated 4,000 watch time hours over the last 12 months. When you reach these figures you will receive an email from YouTube telling you that you are eligible to enrol in their partner program.

But how easy are these numbers to reach? Well, that depends. If you already have a large online following elsewhere on the internet, like on Twitter or Instagram then creating a YouTube channel and promoting yourself to your already established audience should be pretty easy. In this scenario then I would expect growth on YouTube to be swift. However, remember that you still need content to generate the 4,000 watch hours.

If you are starting from scratch, it may not be so easy. However, a lot of that will depend on the content that you are creating.

If I am being honest, YouTube is hard work and most people do not see results right away. It can take years to build a following on the platform and a lot of people quit when they do not see their audience grow in the first few months of starting their channel. Also, there are millions…
