I have had a YouTube channel since 2014. However, it is only in the last year that I started to post more regularly and began to take it a little more seriously.

I uploaded my first video in 2016 and then I maybe posted a handful of videos each year until 2020. After completing university in 2020, YouTube was something that I wanted to do more of. I was already a photographer and I wrote a blog, and so, expanding onto YouTube seemed like a natural progression. Also, most of the creators that I was watching on the platform had come from blogging. They all said that they enjoyed creating content on YouTube much more than blogging, and they wished that they had joined the platform sooner.

If you are thinking of starting a channel to make money, my advice would be, not to make that your priority. Becoming monetized can take years, along with a lot of hard work and time. I spend 1 or 2 days a week making videos and another day editing and uploading them. I also work full time and so, pretty much all of my spare time is taken up making videos.

To make money from advertisements on YouTube, your channel needs 1000 subscribers as well as 4,000 watch hours. My channel currently has 59 subscribers. I will not be making any money from it anytime soon. So why do I do it? Well, because I love it. Creating videos gets me out of the house…
